The reigning Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre announced yesterday he is
swapping his current cycling team CSC for the Cervelo Test team at the end of
the current season.
The 33-year-old Sastre has been with the Denmark-based CSC since2002,
finishing second in the 2005 Vuelta de Espana (Tour of Spain)and third in the
2006 Tour de France, before his triumph this summer.
Sastre confirmed his move in a statement on his website www.
carlossastre.com.
"There have been a lot of rumors about my future in recent days. Now the time
has come for me to talk about my future and I will do so from a viewpoint of
total respect toward my current team CSC," he said in a statement.
"I have had seven unforgettable years both from a personal and sporting point
of view, but there is a before and after for everything in this life and my
future lies in looking a bit further ahead," he added. "That is one of the most
important reasons why I have decided to join the Cervelo Test team."
"It is a new team and fits in very well with my way of being," explained
Sastre.
