Jordan to play Egypt in women's soccer
8/9/2008 17:58

Jordan faces Egypt as the 12th Armed Forces Women's Football Tournament gets under way in Abu Dhabi today, local daily The Jordan Times reported.
Jordan will play in Group B with Algeria, Egypt, Oman and Syria while Group A includes the UAE, Lebanon, Morocco, Bahrain and a Dubai team. The top two from each group will move to the semifinals.
Coach Maher Abu Hantash said the team was ready for competition and hoped to play for the title.
The squad is on a high note after finishing runner-up last month in the inaugural West Asian Women's Futsal Championship in which they lost to Iran 8-7 in the final.
Although a relatively new sport in the country, women's football is gaining increasing popularity among players and fans in Jordan.
