12 countries confirm participation in West Africa Football U-20

At least 12 countries have been confirmed their participation in the
forthcoming West African Football Union U-20 men's football competition, local
media Punch reported today. The competition takes place between Nov. 30 and
Dec. 14 in Warri, Delta State. Head of the Local Organizing Committee Media
Committee, Ade Ojeikere, said early this week in Abuja that the countries
expected to join Nigeria are Togo, Benin, Mali, Sierra Leone, Cape Verde,
Guinea, Niger, Senegal, Ghana, Liberia and Cote d' Iviore. He said, "We had a
very fruitful deliberation and all the committees were united in their
conviction that the forthcoming event must be organized professionally and
according to global best practices." "WAFU has been dormant for over a decade
but with this competition, it is the beginning of greater things to come for the
sub-region," he said. The LOC, Ojeikere added, discussed the budgets of the
Media, Marketing and Protocol Sub-Committees respectively, while the Facilities,
Venues and Technical sub-Committees were expected to submit theirs after the
visit to Warri tomorrow.
