The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested yesterday morning two women
suspected of hiring a killer to murder 23-year-old soccer player Thiago da
Silva. Silva is a member of the Estacio soccer team. According to the police,
the suspects were arrested in their respective homes. On Thursday, September
18th, Silva was inside his girlfriend's car when one of the suspects ran her car
into the other. From the car of the suspect, two men got out and demanded that
Silva and his girlfriend get out of their car. According to Silva, one of the
men is a member of the Military Police and also happens to be his girlfriend's
step-father. The other man has not yet been identified. The couple was then
taken to a soccer field in Inhauama, where they remained handcuffed for the rest
of that afternoon. Later in the day, three men physically beat Silva and then
shot him three times, leaving him to die. However, around 11pm that night,
Silva was able to contact the Military Police and give them his location. The
athlete was rushed to the hospital where he continues to recover and is in
stable condition. According to police, the apparent motive of the attempted
assassination is related to Silva's decision to prolong his wedding date with
his girlfriend.
