Lagos plans international beach soccer tourney

Nigeria's Lagos state will host an international beach soccer tourney to
discover hidden talents by taking the advantage to showcase the tourist
potentials inherent in the state. Speaking in Lagos at the weekend, the
state's Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Ademola
Adeniji-Adele, said the international tourney which has been proposed to involve
countries like, Brazil, the United Arab Emirate (UAC), France and Nigeria will
be achieved within 12 months time frame. The one-day tournament initiated by
the state is to to be staged on Oct.1 to kick-start these plans, discover new
beach soccer talents and to celebrate with the nation on her independence
day. According to him, the tournament is intended to graduate into a regional
competition involving all the coastal states, and later extended to the world
stage, adding that by so doing, players with raw talents would have been
discovered, that can represent the country in future engagement, instead of
drawing players from the professional league teams. He said Ojo, Lagos
Island, Ibeju Lekki, and Etiosa, Local Government Areas as the teams selected to
compete in the one-day tourney.
