Cuba not to attend Baseball America Cup

President of the Cuban Baseball Federation Higinio Velez said yesterday
that Cuba will not attend the Baseball America Cup in Venezuela, which offers
five berths for the World Cup of 2009. Velez said that it is not necessary
the presence of Cuba during the America Cup in Venezuela to be held on Sept. 26
because the island already classified for the World Cup because it participated
at the Olympics of Beijing. Velez said that for the moment they were occupied
on the organization of the coming 48 National Series. Baseball America Cup
will be held in the Venezuelan cities of Puerto Ordaz and El Tigre from Sept. 26
to Oct. 7. In the Group A will compete Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia,
Netherlands Antilles and Mexico, while in the B will compete Puerto Rico,
Brazil, Aruba, Guatemala and Panama. The first five teams will get a ticket
for the world championship of Sept. 2009 in Barcelona (Spain), Prague (Czech
Republic), Moscow (Russia) and Regensburg (Germany).
