Russian Tursunov wins Metz title

Russian Dmitry Tursunov clinched his fifth title in career as he overcame
the second set slump to beat home favourite Paul-Henri Mathieu 2-1 in the final
of the Metz Open yesterday. Tursunov, seeded fifth, needed two hours and 24
minutes to beat the Frenchman 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 after converting on his third match
point. It was his second title of the year after winning in
Sydney. Fourth-seeded Mathieu wasted three set points in the opening tiebreak
where Tursunov won it at 8-6. However, the Russian inexplicably lost his
concentration and allowed Mathieu to level the match. Tursunov found his
groundstrokes right in time in the decider to break in the fifth game before
holding serve.
