Espanyol was handed a fine of 3,000 euros (US$4,076) by the Spanish
Football Federation (RFEF) yesterday due to the crowd trouble that marred last
month's derby against Barcelona. The Catalonian derby between Espanyol and
Barcelona on Sept. 27 was halted in the 68th minute by the referee when smoke
bombs were thrown by upper Barcelona supporters onto Espanyol fans in stands
below. Espanyol, who lost the game 2-1, said in a statement on its website
that it would accept the decision.
