Greece made it three wins out of three when they beat Moldova 3-0 in their
World Cup Group 2 qualifying match at the Karaiskakis Stadium yesterday.
Two goals from Angelos Charisteas and one from Konstantinos Katsouranis put
Greece top of the group with a maximum nine points before the former European
champions host Switzerland on Wednesday.
Charisteas put them ahead after 32 minutes when he drifted wide and unmarked
at a free-kick to collect the ball and fire past Nicolai Calancea in the Moldova
goal.
Eight minutes later Fanis Gekas laid on a pass for Katsouranis who produced a
stunning shot from outside the area that flew into the top corner.
Charisteas put the result beyond doubt six minutes into the second half when
he pounced on a defensive slip to make it 3-0.
