Doug Frost, who guided Ian Thorpe to greatness, is leaving for Britain for
better money and opportunities. Frost, 64, has been appointed to head up an
intensive training centre in Stirling, Scotland, one of five created as Britain
gears up its swimming programme ahead of the 2012 London Olympics. He moulded
Thorpe into Australia's greatest Olympian with five gold medals along with 11
world championship golds and 13 individual world records from 1998 up to his
retirement in 2006. Frost, a former senior swimming coach at the Australian
Institute of Sport, said he would not be the last Australian swim coach to move
offshore for coaching opportunities.
