Pennetta quick to book second round berth

Italian Flavia Pennetta, seeded number seven, booked the quickest win
yesterday at the Generali Ladies Linz Open, crushing Agnes Szavay of Hungary in
just 54 minutes, 6-1, 6-2. She will take on Dominika Cibulkova in the second
round. The last batch of first round matches and the first second round
matches took the courts with no huge surprises at the US$600,000, Tier II
tournament. Also moving into the second round were Austrian Sybille Bammer, a
7-5, 6-3 winner against Francesca Schiavone of Italy, and qualifier Petra
Kvitova from Czech Republic, who beat Austrian wildcard Tamira Paszek, 6-3,
6-3. In the second round matches of the day, No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of
Poland cruised past Estonian opponent Kaia Kanepi, 6-2, 6-4, while French eighth
seed Alize Cornet won a see-saw night match against Russian Maria Kirilenko,
1-6, 6-2, 6-1. This year's four best doubles teams were also in action. Cara
Black and Liezel Huber, seeded No.1 this week and playing their first round
match, moved past Renata Voracova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in a match
tie-break victory, 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. Also contesting the first round, No.3
seeds Kveta Peschke and Rennae Stubbs won through in straight sets, while No.4
seeds the Bondarenko sisters were ousted by Jill Craybas and Tamarine
Tanasugarn. No.2 seeds Katarina Srebotnik and Ai Sugiyama played their
quarterfinal, taking out Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez
handily, 6-2, 6-3.
