24/10/2008 17:24

The Flamengo soccer team put on a show in front of its home crowd yesterday at the Maracana stadium as they crushed Coritiba 5-0 in the Brazilian Championship.
With the 31st round win, the team collected 55 points to return to the top four, the qualification positions for the 2009 Libertadores Cup.
They are in fourth place, behind Palmeiras, Sao Paulo and Gremio as
Coritiba saw their chances of qualifying in the top four slip away. The team is in eighth place with 46 points.
"It was a convincing victory for Flamengo. We played great from the beginning, not allowing any opportunities for Coritiba. Additionally, we are still on the heels of Gremio. Now, we have to focus on our next game against Vitoria," said Flamengo forward Obina.
The first and the last goals of Flamengo came by way of penalty kicks. The first came in the 20th minute of the first half when Leonadro Moura kicked the ball into the right side of the net. The team's fifth and last goal was scored in stoppage time in the second half by the goalkeeper, Bruno, who scored his first goal of the tournament. The other three goals came from Obina (35), Ibson (77) and Maxi (79).
Coritiba will receive Atletico-MG while Flamengo will travel to Vitoria next Wednesday.
