Koeln, Leverkusen fined over flares on pitch
4/11/2008 15:42

German Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and Koeln were both fined by the German Football Federation (DFB) yesterday after flares and firecrackers landed on the pitch in the recent derby match between the sides.
Koeln were hit with a fine of 23,000 euros (around US$29,500) while Leverkusen, which hosted the game on Oct. 24, have to pay 10,000 euros.
The missiles were fired from the Koeln fan section at the Bay Arena ground in the direction of a linesman and a Leverkusen player, German news agency DPA reported.
Koeln's higher fine took into account an incident at the team's home match against Bayern Munich in September when an empty cup was thrown towards a linesman.
