Nigeria, Ghana, others battle for African U-17 criclet ticket

The North-West African Region of the African Cricket Association Under 17
Tournament started in Abeokuta early this week with host Nigeria, emerging power
house, Ghana, and a formidable Sierra Leone team and three other countries
jostling for the sole ticket from the group. The five-day competition, which
rounds off today, is also featuring Mali, Cameroon, and Gambia. The winner of
the competition, organized under the aegis of the International Cricket Council,
will qualify for the African U-17 Championship in South Africa. Second Vice
Chairman of Nigeria Cricket Federation Ewa Henshaw described the hosting of the
competition as a "privilege by the ICC. " Henshaw added that the global body
had been impressed with Nigrian performances on the field and in administration
over the years. Nigeria beat The Gambia on Monday with 83 runs in 12.1 ovals
while The Gambia had 82 runs all out in 29.2 ovals.
