Argentine press yesterday lamented the "Sad Night" of Boca Juniors and River
Plate, the two most important teams in Argentina that were eliminated at the
South American Cup quarterfinals.
"Can not believe it!" the press said when referring to the tie 2-2 of River
Plate with Mexican team Chivas club during a match in Guadalajara, Mexico,
River's coach Diego Simeone is about to resign.
Local daily "Clarin" said that River "played an impeccable first half, like
champions", but during the second half "the team made mistakes twice and
finished out of the Cup."
"This is River: the last champion and the last tournament. A team that goes
with everything and makes five, six, seven clear goal situations but it does not
fulfill them, the other team attacks two or three times and are able to tie,"
the press said.
Argentines Juniors-Estudiantes de la Plata and Chivas-Inter will play the
semifinals of the South America Cup.
