River Plate coach Diego Simeone resigned yesterday and he will coach his
last match with River tomorrow against Huracan club during the opening
local tournament.
Simeone informed his decision to River's directors in Guadalajara, Mexico,
after River was eliminated on Thursday night by the Mexican club Chivas from the
quarterfinal of the South American Cup.
Simeone, 38-year-old, took charge as River's coach at the end of 2007 and
conquered six months of the closing 2008 tournament, but a current string of
poor results at the local tournament, which is the worst of its history and the
elimination from the South American Cup, precipitated his resignation.
