After a very long year for fans of the Corinthians soccer team, the second
division club of the Brasileiro Championship wrapped up the
trophy yesterday.
After beating Criciuma 2-0, the team capped off a great season, guaranteeing
their return to the first division of the Brasileiro Championship for the 2009
season.
Corinthians held on as the role of leader throughout the whole second half of
the season. They had the best offensive attack, allowed the fewest goals on
defense and lost only two times. The club, as well as its fans, has been
celebrating the team's ascension back into the first division for the last four
weeks.
With goals coming from Chicao in the 23rd minute, and from Cristian in the
34th minute, the team cruised to victory.
Corinthians closed the season with 76 points. At the opposite end of the
leader board of the second division (Serie B), CRB ended the season with the
worst record and will be dropped down into the third division (Serie C), capping
off a horrible year for the team.
