Luxemburgo retracts promise to stay in Palmeiras
26/11/2008 16:04

Two days after announcing his plans to leave Palmeiras, Vanderlei Luxemburgo said yesterday that he will be staying with the team throughout 2009.
Luxemburgo's announcement to leave the team came after a violent run-in with fans and widespread criticism. However, Luxemburgo is determined to prove the critics wrong.
"There is no chance of me leaving the team despite the recent events and speculations. I hope to, and will, reawaken the happiness inside of the Palmeiras club that has temporarily vanished," said Luxemburgo.
The recent events that Luxemburgo referred to are the threats and violence that fan groups have laid on him. One particular run-in took place at the Congonhas airport in Sao Paulo where he ended up with a fractured right elbow.
Luxemburgo expressed his frustration after his team's 2-0 loss to Ipatinga last Sunday, saying that he was unhappy at Palmeiras and if he could not find happiness at the club, he would quit.
