Tevez fires Man Utd into League Cup semis

Carlos Tevez scored four goals to send Manchester United into the English
League Cup last four in a thrilling 5-3 win over Blackburn at Old Trafford
yesterday. Holders Tottenham Hotspur also advanced after a 2-1 victory at
Watford thanks to Darren Bent's late winner. The other two slots had gone to
championship sides Burnley, who cracked Arsenal out with a 2-0 home win on
Tuesday, and Derby County, beating Stoke City 1-0. Tevez's magnificent
display is sure to cause selection problems for boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who has
left him on the bench for much of the season in the league. The unstoppable
Argentine broke the deadlock after 36 minutes before setting up Nani to fire
home. Benni McCarthy's shot pulled one back for the visitors shortly after the
break but Tevez immediately responded with two quick-fire goals in three minutes
including a penalty to make it 4-1. Blackburn reignited hopes as they scored
in the final six minutes to cut the difference to one goal. However, Tevez
grabbed his fourth goal in injury time and deservedly secured United's place in
Saturday's semi-finals. Ferguson made 10 changes to the United lineup who won
at Manchester City on Sunday but they were still too much for the
visitors. Blackburn's poor performance will not ease the pressure on
under-fire manager Paul Ince, who has seen his side slip into the Premier League
drop zone in recent weeks.
