Nigerian soccer team scores 30 goals at Homeless WC

The Nigerian soccer team Search and Groom moved a step closer to secure a
quarterfinal berth at the Homeless World Cup in Melbourne Australia, a world
street soccer gathering, after breezing past the preliminary round in
style.
According to a report on the Vanguard yesterday, the Search and Groom
team demolished India 15-0 then followed with another 15 against the Philippines
in the final game of the preliminary group to take maximum points of fifteen
from five games, ensuring qualification into the secondary and final group of
the best 24 teams.
The loss of three players who were unable to join up with
the rest of the squad due to flight hitches, failed to deter the team on
Thursday as they started the secondary round of group B games along with Poland,
Scotland, South Africa and host Australia.
In games played early Thursday,
Nigeria walloped Poland 7-3 with four goals coming from Lukmon Jimoh, a brace
from Dare Yakub and a lone strike from Shola Jacob.
South Africa were the
next victims, going down 7-10. Goalkeeper Shola Jacob, converted to outfield to
fill in for the missing players, scored a hat trick and provided four assists
for Lukmon Jimoh and Dare Yakub.
Host Australia also fell to the team coached
by Fola Kuku. Hattricks from both Dare Yakub and Shola Jacobs coupled with
Lukmon Jimoh's four goals helped the Nigerian team achieve a 10-3
win.
Nigeria currently lead the race to the quarter-finals after amassing 9
points from 3 games followed by Scotland on the same number of points, but
Nigeria are ahead on goals difference of 14 to Scotland's 11. Ghana are third
with six points.
Two more games will be played by Nigeria on Friday
afternoon. The first game will be against defending champion Scotland and the
second against Ghana.
