Former Nigerian international worried over team's poor show
17/12/2008 16:54

Former Nigerian international Chris Anigala said he is worried about the future of the country's football after the national team failed to qualify for the maiden edition of the African Nations Championship.
He told Xinhua in an interview today that there is nothing to be excited about in Nigerian football and called for a serious surgical operation.
"It is very sad that for 90 minutes, our team could not score a goal, knowing full well that they needed to score a goal to be at the Championship," said Anigala.
The ex-international added that something is wrong with the country's football system.
"We cannot even produce good players from the local league. It is sad. What do we have to celebrate about our football then? It means there is no reason to be excited about football in the country any longer."
According to him, during his playing days, majority of the national team came from the local league.
