Nigerian Vice President Goodluck Jonathan expressed satisfaction at the extent of work going on at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, saying he has no doubt that FIFA will be impressed when they come calling in January.

According to the Nation newspaper report, the vice president said he is impressed with the quantity of work done so far, adding that because Lagos is a mini Nigeria, he has no doubt that before the commencement of the world cup, the Stadium will be ready.

Speaking on the extent of work done so far, the Senior Project Manager of Deus Project, the engineering firm in charge of the renovation work at the Stadium, Richard Ryan said a lot of work has been done in the Stadium in line with the FIFA standard.

Asked why there seems to be slow pace of work at the Stadium, Ryan told Nation Sport that the 2009 world cup will be happening at the end of next year and as such he feels that they are on time, adding that they started this early so that they can do it right.

"Our architect and engineers had to study the existing conditions at the stadium which gave a real challenge in fixing every thing out here because for instance we had to go from two changing rooms to four and one room for referees to two, we have do it in a way that it will accommodate all the people," he said.

He added that their engineers had to squeeze the available space together to achieve the set objectives, saying that to do it right sometimes, it will have to take time, and to solve the problem that have been inherited, will take time.
