A car bomb exploded in Madrid today after a warning call, injuring one
person, Spanish media reported. The explosion occurred around 9:30 a.m.
(0730GMT) in the San Blas district in the north of the Spanish capital after a
warning call to the Basque newspaper Gara, often a mouthpiece for the armed
Basque separatist group ETA. Police had sealed off the area and TV footage
showed a large column of black smoke rising from the explosion site. Local
media quoted police sources as saying that one person was injured.
