Four infants bodies have been found in Austria on Friday -- two wrapped in
plastic bags in a freezer and two entombed in buckets of concrete -- police
said.
A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of killing them but had said
she did not know what happened, police added.
Her 38-year-old companion, who denied involvement, also was arrested and
placed under investigation.
"She says she was in such a state that she simply doesn't know what she did,"
the head of Graz criminal police, Anton Lehr, said, adding that she said she
gave birth to the children in her bathtub and could not remember what happened
next.
"We assume that these are her children but we need it in black and white with
DNA etc," Lehr said.
The killings and disposals in Graz, about 120 miles south of Vienna, stunned
the alpine nation where multiple homicides are rare and led to calls for more
assistance for women with crisis pregnancies.
According to the officials, autopsies were conducted, but results were not
expected before Monday.
