At least 12 people were killed and some 30 others were injured this
morning as a tour bus carrying school teachers in northeastern Thailand plunged
off a mountain road, according to official sources. Most passengers on the
bus were teachers and their family members who were taking a trip to the Royal
Flora Ratchaphruek, an international horticultural show in the northern city of
Chiang Mai. Investigations indicated that the vehicle's brakes jammed and the
driver did not to slow down along a mountain road, the sources said, adding that
the bus skidded before it flipped over and then plunged into a river close to
the road.
