The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) yesterday called on South
Korea to take necessary measures to resume stagnant inter-Korean relations since
the DPRK's missile test last July, the official news agency reported.
"National reunification is facing a serious challenge from both domestic and
overseas hostile forces," Kim Ki-nam, secretary of the Secretariat of the DPRK
ruling Workers' Party of Korea, was quoted by the Korean Central News Agency
(KCNA) as saying.
The development made in the DPRK-South Korean relations is now in a dangerous
phase, he said, adding that "South Korea should stop the joint military
exercises with the United States and abolish all laws and rules harmful to
national reunification."
The DPRK government, political parties and social organizations on Wednesday
issued a joint statement calling on all Koreans to make efforts for national
reunification.
Since the DPRK conducted a missile test and a nuclear test last year, South
Korea has suspended the contact with Pyongyang.
