Russian, Chinese and Indian foreign ministers yesterday stressed their
countries' commitment to multilateral diplomacy, support for dialogue among
civilizations and religions, and condemnation on terrorism.
In a joint communique issued at the end of their trilateral meeting here,
Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and his Indian and Russian counterparts
Pranab Mukherjee and Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed that "trilateral cooperation is
not directed against the interests of any other country," but "to promote
international harmony and understanding and find common ground amid divergent
interests."
The three ministers empahsized the need to preserve the cultural and
civilizational diversity and to promote dialogue among civilizations and
religions.
Acknowledging UN's role in promoting and attaining a multi-polar world, Li
and Lavrov reiterated that their countries understand and support India's
aspirations to play a greater role in the UN.
The three ministers also agreed that there can be no justification for any
act of terrorism, calling for cooperation, and consistent, sustained and
comprehensive approaches in fight against terrorism.
They all agreed that "cooperation rather than confrontation should govern
approaches to regional and global affairs."
On economic cooperation, the ministers said specific attention should be paid
to the considerable potential for mutually-beneficial economic interaction among
the three countries in areas such as energy, transport infrastructure, health
and high technology, including IT and biotechnology.
