Spain and the United States signed an agreement which regulates US
military investigation services in Spain, Spanish Defense Minister Jose Antonio
Alonso said yesterday.
Under the agreement, US military activities in Spain must be acceptable to
Spanish officials, and the US side should notify its activities to Spain in
advance, the minister told a press conference.
The agreement regulates the activities of the US Naval Criminal Investigation
Services and the US Air Force Office of Special Investigation.
Alonso said this accord will fill the "legal vacuum" in this sector, that it
guarantees Spain's national sovereignty and reinforces defense cooperation
between the two countries.
