Monsoon death toll reaches 61 in Nepal

At least 61 persons have lost their lives over the past week due to floods and related diseases across Nepal, local newspaper The Himalayan Times reported today.
The death toll is rising as heavy rainfall continues, especially in parts of southern Nepal, said the report.
Viral fever, diarrhea and dysentery are sweeping the countryside of Mahottari district, some 130 km south of capital Kathmandu. Two more persons were drowned there on Monday.
In Morang district, some 240 km east of Kathmandu, the body of an unidentified person aged around 50 was recovered in flooded areas, police said.
In Chitwan, some 85 km south of Kathmandu, a teacher named Badri Narayan Tiwari was swept away by Rewa Khola yesterday.
