South Korea announced yesterday that it will send 7.1 billion won (US$7.5
million) worth of emergency aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(DPRK) within next week to help DPRK to recover from the damage by heavy rains.
"We will prepare to send emergency aid to the North (DPRK) early next week,"
said Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung at a press briefing here.
The assistance will include noodles, bottled water, powdered milk, blankets
and medicine, he said.
South Korea will discuss ways of sending equipment and additional aid needed
to overcome the damage in DPRK after transporting the emergency aid via
inter-Korean sea and land routes, he said.
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, 46,580 homes had been flooded
or destroyed, while more than 300,000 people were displaced in DPRK's flash
floods.
