Thai FM says charter amendment will not lead to another coup
5/5/2008 17:11
Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama today expressed confidence that the
planned charter amendment of the government will not trigger another military
coup as claimed by some anti-government civil groups. Noppadon, who is also
deputy secretary general of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), said the
international community clearly understands Thailand's political
situation. He called on all government officials to quickly attend to the
people's problems and avoid giving interviews on the political situation to
avoid creating division in the country. Recently, the anti-government groups
led by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) have held several
anti-government rallies, opposing the government's plan to amend the 2007
charter, claiming the movement would lead to another military coup.
