The elite navy troops of the Philippines and the United States are
conducting a 10-day classroom-based war game in the southern Philippine city of
Zamboanga, local news network ABS-CBN News reported today. The deputy
commander of the US 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force and tactical exercises
control group, Fred Grant told the news network that the exercise will be
handled by around 20 instructors from the US Marines. Grant said the training
would enhance the capability of the Philippine Marines in tactical warfare and
it would also help develop camaraderie among Filipino and American
soldiers. Washington and Manila hold various military drills every year,
including the annual large-scale Balikatan military exercise which involves
8,000 Filipino and American soldiers this year. The US government said it
will help the Armed Forces of the Philippines with training, particularly in
learning new tactics in military operations, and cooperation in humanitarian
missions.
