At least three people were killed in an explosion ripped through a
passenger bus to enter a terminal in a southern Philippine city at this noon,
the military said. Maj. Armand Rico, spokesman of the military's Eastern
Mindanao Command, said that the improvised explosive device exploded inside the
bus at around 11:50 a.m. local time when the bus parked at the Digos bus
terminal. The victims were inside the bus at the time of the blast, he said,
adding that there an undetermined number of other passengers were injured. He
said that bomb experts were still conducting investigation as to the composition
of the bomb that was used. Rico said authorities were investigating as to the
persons or groups who may be responsible for the attack. It was the second
explosion in the city within two years. The authority said that a local ally of
the Southeast Asia terrorist group Jemaah Islamiya (JI) was responsible for the
previous explosion in 2007.
