Moderate quake hits eastern Indonesia
25/7/2008 10:47

An earthquake measuring 5.0 Richter scale rocked eastern parts of Indonesia this morning, no report of damage or casualty, the meteorology agency said.

The quake jolted at 05:24 Jakarta time (2224GMT Thursday) with epicenter at 73 kilometers northwest Ternate of North Maluku province and at 65 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

Indonesia sits on a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates meet, causing frequent volcanic movements.
