Spanish Police said yesterday that they have arrested a woman suspected of
being the representative of Colombian FARC guerrillas in Spain.
Maria Remedios Garcia Albert, 57, allegedly raised funds for the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Spain, local media reported,
citing a police official.
The Spanish Interior Ministry was quoted as saying that Garcia Albert had
provided logistical support for FARC and had direct contacts with Raul Reyes,
the FARC number two leader who was killed by Colombian troops inside Ecuador in
March.
She was found in possession of separate sums of money she intended to send to
FARC representatives in Europe, the ministry said in a statement.
Emails sent to her from computers used by Raul Reyes led to her arrest in
Madrid, the report said.
