The US-led Coalition forces killed two militants and detained two
suspected militants during an operation targeting IED (Improvised Explosive
Device) network in central Afghanistan, said a Coalition statement today. The
operation carried out in Andar district of Ghazni province yesterday targeted a
known IED facilitator who was wanted for conducting and coordinating attacks
against civilians, the Afghan government and foreign forces in the region, the
statement said. "The targeted militant, who was armed, and one other armed
militant were killed during the operation," it said. Coalition forces
searched the targeted compound and vehicles, finding multiple AK-47s, three
rocket-propelled grenades, a rocket launcher, multiple hand grenades, IED-making
material and military style clothing, all of which were destroyed to prevent
future use, it added. Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the
lives of over 4,000 people with around 1,445 civilians so far this year in the
war-torn country, according to the latest UN reports.
