Indonesian police will deploy over 98,000 personnel to safeguard tens
million Muslims traveling to their home town for Islamic festival of Eid Al-Fitr
on Oct. 1 and 2, senior police officer said in Jakarta today. Head of
security development of the National Police Imam Hardjatna said that the focus
of the security would be on the spots where many people gathered, he said,
adding that a number of snipers would also be posted at vulnerable spots. "We
secure all fragile areas including religious places and other places where mass
gathering,"he told reporters. To pave the work of the police officers, 4,018
security posts would be set up nation in vulnerable spots nationwide. Days
ahead of the Islamic festivity in the Indonesia, people will return home by
land, air and sea transports. Islamic festival marks the end of Islamic holy
fasting month of Ramadhan. Indonesia is the biggest Muslim country with over
87 percent of its total population. Over 240 million people are
Muslims.
