23/9/2008 17:59
Jordan's king Abdullah II will pay a brief visit to Egypt today for talks
with Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, local daily The Jordan Times
reported. A Royal Court statement said the meeting will focus on the latest
developments in the Middle East peace process and the changes in Israel's
political scene. The King's visit comes after the shocks the Israeli politics
have experienced that Ehud Olmert stepped down as Premier and Foreign Minister
Tzipi Livni is likely to form a coalition. The two leaders will discuss a
unified Arab stance against the challenges facing the Arab nation. Talks
between the two sides will also address means to boost bilateral relations,
added the statement. Economic analysts voiced hopes that the visit will
result in an increased volume of trade exchange between the two countries,
especially in light of reciprocal customs exemptions on goods flowing between
the two neighbors under a full-fledged Free Trade Zone Agreement.
