A bus crashed into a runaway circus elephant on a highway in the suburbs
of this capital early yesterday, killing the driver and injuring four
passengers, local media reported. The five-ton female elephant also died and
was left lying on the road that links Mexico City to the pyramids of
Teotihuacan. The elephant, named Hilda and about 40 years old, broke free
while being fed on Monday evening. The caretaker of the elephant said the
elephant had never run away before.
