Lebanese president calls for ending Israeli threats
24/9/2008 17:44

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman has called on the international community to press Israel to stop its treats against Lebanon, local As-Safier daily reported today.
"Lebanon is facing a series of dangers which urge the international community to pressure Israel into implementing UN resolution 1701 and ending treats against Lebanon," Suleiman was quoted as saying at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Sulieman reiterated Lebanon's full commitment to resolution 1701 which ended 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.
He said that the Lebanese government will oblige Israel to pay compensation for all damages resulting from its offensives against Lebanon.
The Lebanese president noted that another challenge for Lebanon was to confront "terror in all its forms and maintain peace."
He, meanwhile, asked for supporting Lebanon's candidacy to the nonpermanent UN Security Council seat for Asia in 2010-2011.
