26/9/2008 18:03

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who is visiting Russia, discussed bilateral relations and international issues yesterday with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
According to reports reaching in Caracas, Chavez, on his international tour, arrived in Russia yesterday from China.
Venezuelan officials said Chavez will travel to the city of Oremburgo, south of the Ural Mountains, today to meet his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev. The two leaders are expected to sign two energy agreements.
Chavez has hoped to set up a strategic partnership with Russia in all fields, especially commercial areas, in a bid to offset US pressure on Venezuela and Latin America.
Russian media reported Russia will give Venezuela a credit of US$1 billion to boost their technical-military cooperation.
Venezuela bought US$4.4 billion worth of Russian weapons between 2005 and 2007. It also plans to buy Russian submarines.
