Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom arrived at Jordan's capital of Amman
yesterday and started a several-day visit to the kingdom.
The president will hold talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II on means to
bolster bilateral ties as well as developments in the Middle East.
"This visit is crucial to pave the way for strengthening cooperation. Hungary
deems Jordan as a gateway for Hungarian economic ambitions in the region," said
Hungarian Ambassador to Jordan Geza Mihalyi.
Economic relations between the two countries dates back in 1976, when the
first economic cooperation agreement was inked.
According to Mihalyi, trade volume between the two countries has surged
significantly as Hungarian exports to Jordan have doubled and vice versa.
The major imports of Hungary from Jordan are agricultural products, including
vegetables and fruits, as well as chemicals, the diplomat added.
Jordan's King Abdullah II visited Hungary in June 2007.
