The US-led Coalition forces yesterday eliminated five armed Taliban militants in central Afghan province of Ghazni, said a Coalition statement released in Kabul today.
The operation in Andar district of Ghazni targeted a known Taliban militant believed to have been in contact with foreign fighter facilitators intended to destabilize the region, the statement said.
"Coalition forces engaged the armed militants, killing them and the targeted Taliban militant was among those killed," it said.
"A search of the area found five AK-47s, multiple hand grenades and military style clothing," it added.
Taliban insurgents, who recently vowed to intensified their assaults against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter, have yet to make any comment.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have left more than 4,500 people mostly insurgents so far this year in Afghanistan.
