23 killed in bus accident in India

At least 23 people were killed and 40 others injured in a bus accident in
Indian northeast state Assam this morning, police said.
The accident took
place when an overcrowded bus hit a truck on a national highway, about 320 km
west of Assam's main city of Guwahati, according to the Indo-Asian News
Service.
"The bus hit a stationary potato-laden truck parked on the side of
the highway with great speed," a police official said.
"The bus had a
capacity of 35 passengers, but was carrying 67 people," he said.
Six children
and five women were among those killed in the accident.
The condition of at
least 10 of the 40 injured was critical, police said.
