Following Nepali government's formal calls and letters to more than a
dozen armed outfits in the Terai plains in south Nepal, one of such groups has
responded to the call through a formal letter of readiness for talks, local
newspaper The Rising Nepal reported yesterday. "We have received a letter
from Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) (Rajan Mukti Group) today. They have
said that they received our letter positively and want to know more about the
talks process," Janardan Sharma, Minister for Peace and Reconstruction, who
coordinates the government's talks team said yesterday evening. Minister
Sharma stated that the government had taken the letter from the JTMM group in a
positive light and would take necessary steps to hold negotiations with all the
politically motivated armed groups. Nepali government had formed a
three-member talks team headed by Minister Sharma and Ram Chandra Jha, Minister
for Local Development and Renu Yadav, Minister for Education, as members, on
Oct. 3. The JTMM (Rajan Mukti Group) splintered from JTMM (Jwala Singh) two
years ago. Issuing a statement on Sunday, Rajan Mukti, chairman of the Rajan
group had expressed his readiness for negotiations. The armed groups had
ignored previous government's call for talks.
