Unknown armed men shot dead an American lady teacher in Afghanistan
capital Kabul this morning and made their good escape, an official at the
Interior Ministry said. "It was at 7:45 a.m. local time (0315 GMT) when two
men riding a motorcycle opened fire on the American lady in Kartai char area of
Kabul's 3rd precinct, killing her on the spot and run away," the official told
Xinhua but refused to be identified, saying he has no authority to talk with
media. The official described the victim as a teacher but failed to say
whether she taught at Kabul University or private colleges. Nonetheless, the
official added that the media would be informed after completion of
investigation in the case. No groups or individuals have claimed
responsibility. In a similar development, unknown armed men abducted a
Canadian female journalist on Oct. 12 in Kabul but police have yet to find any
clue about her whereabouts. Taliban militants fighting Afghan and
international troops based in Afghanistan often carry out such attacks to weaken
President Hamid Karzai's administration.
