Pyongyang's official newspaper Rodong Sinmun yesterday urged the United
States to drop its hostile policy and build confidence with the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The Cold War is over and nobody expects an arms race and antagonism, a
commentary said, but the United States had gone against the trend of disarmament
and detente by developing high-tech weapons and beefing up its military force,
especially deploying troops around the Korean peninsula.
The US movement revealed its intention of military confrontation with the
DPRK and its attempt to round off the preparations for another Korean war, the
commentary alleged.
"What is essential for relations between the DPRK and the United States is
building bilateral confidence. This is made more urgent by present
circumstances," it added.
The DPRK's media intensified its rhetorical war against the United States
after the six-party talks aimed at ridding Pyongyang of its nuclear program was
deadlocked.
However, the two nations reached a deal on delisting the country from US
terrorism blacklist to get the disablement back on track earlier this month.
