A Navy P-3 Orion airplane with the US-led Coalition forces sustained
serious structural and fire damage, injuring one soldier on board while landing
at the Coalition's Bagram Air Field, some 40 km from Kabul, today, said a
Coalition statement. "The airplane overshot the runway surface while landing
at the Coalition base early today," the statement said. "The entire crew
survived, though one US crew member suffered a broken ankle and was treated at
hospital on Bagram," it said, " the cause of the accident is under
investigation." Meanwhile, Coalition forces, according to another statement
issued in Kabul today, detained four suspected militants during separate
operations targeting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda networks in Kunar and Ghazni
provinces of eastern Afghanistan yesterday. "Multiple AK-47s, a shotgun and
other military style equipment were also found during the operations," it
added. Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have left more than
4,500 people dead so far this year in Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents
recently vowed to intensify assaults against interests of the Afghan government
and international troops before the coming winter.
