Zaki Azmi appointed as Malaysia's chief Justice

Malaysian Supreme Head Mizan Zainal Abidin has consented to the
appointment of Zaki Azmi as the country's chief justice, local newspapers
reported today. The decision was made following the advice of Prime Minister
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and deliberation of the Rulers' Conference, the New
Straits Times said. The king also gave nod for the appointment of former
Chief Judge of Malaya, Mohd Sheriff, as the president of the Court of
Appeal. Former Federal Court Judge,A rifin Zakaria, had been appointed as the
Chief Judge of Malaya. The appointments were effective from Oct.18, the
newspaper said.
