Five people killed in air crash in northern Mexico
23/10/2008 16:20

A Mexican light plane exploded shortly after taking off from the country's northern state of Tamaulipas, killing all the five people on board, local authorities said yesterday.
The Cessna plane exploded 800 meters above the ground after taking off from the airport of Cuidad Victoria, the capital city of Tamaulipas. All the people on board, including one pilot and four passengers were confirmed dead, said Gustavo Adrian Garza who is in charge of the accident.
Primary investigations showed the four dead passengers were staff from the capital's notary office, including its president Carlos Bello. They were heading for an exchange activity in Texas in the United States, said Garza.
The pilot had detected engine failures after taking off. The plane exploded as he was trying to land, said an airport ground serviceman.
